It’s ideal for experienced kayakers or those who have completed Essentials of Kayak Touring, Basic Coastal Kayak, or an equivalent “Next Step Class.” Embrace this opportunity to become a kayaking expert. Ideal for guides starting their journey.
What’s Covered:
The course encompasses a range of essential skills listed on the ACA website
- Forward Stroke Focus on proper form.
- Sweep Stroke: Turning agility and precision as well as a counter to wind.
- Reverse Stroke: Navigate with precision in confined spaces.
- Draw Stroke: Improve lateral movements for increased agility.
- Sculling Draw: Another lateral movement technique.
- Low Brace: Keeping upright when the chop is up.
- Flat 360 Spin: Learn to rotate the kayak in a complete circle effortlessly.
- Low/Brace Turn: Execute agile turns smoothly.
- Stern Rudder: Manually counter wind interference
- Pivot Maneuver: Perform agile turns on edge.
- Self-Rescue Techniques like rodeo re-entry
- Partner Rescue Techniques including T- Rescue
- Towing Skills like a single inline tow
- Trip Planning

Course Details:
- Cost: $125 per person per day (A $5 one-day event membership fee applies for non-ACA members).
- Prerequisites: Previous participation in Essentials of Kayak Touring, Basic Coastal Kayak, or an equivalent “Next Step Class,” and the ability to perform a wet exit with a spray skirt.
- Registration: Pre-register online to secure your spot.
- Minimum Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Class Size: Limited to 5 students per instructor for personalized attention.
- Cancellation Policy: Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 72 hours before the class for a full refund. No refunds within 72 hours of the class. Trip insurance is recommended.

Participants need the following gear:
- Sea Kayak with Bulkheads and Deck Lines
- Paddle
- Life Jacket
- Whistle
- Spray-skirt
- Water-appropriate clothing
- Water Shoes (No Bare Feet or Flip Flops)
- Lunch and ample water
